we were in Port Hueneme.Trying to get on the Naval Base.Okay, maybe it didn't look that foreboding, but ... not far from it!
Pat and Drew were invited to play on the Conejo Valley All-Star team, and participate in a tournament on the Naval Base at Port Hueneme. Deb had called the week before to get all of our information so that it could be added to the list of attendees. If your name wasn't on the list, you couldn't get on base. Guess what? Our name wasn't on the list! Then again, neither was theirs!! As luck would have it, an active-duty officer was around when Deb and Bill were trying to get on base and he was kind enough to sponsor them. When Kevin and I arrived and couldn't get on base, we met up with Deb and Bill and went into to the Pass Office to see if we could be added to their pass. The young woman in the office was very nice and added Kevin and I without a problem, and we were all able to head over to watch the game. WHEW! That was a close call! It wasn't too bad, though - we arrived in the bottom of the first inning.
Unfortunately the boys lost, but we had fun cheering them on! Afterwards we all headed to Topper's Pizza for lunch ... and a fun story to tell about getting on the Navy Base!
